Members of Grass Roots can build their own box by selecting from nearly 50 different products and cuts of pastured chicken and turkey, 100% grass-fed beef, and forested pork.

How Does It Work?

For the members of Grass Roots Co-op, sourcing responsibly and eating well is as simple as selecting or building their box, signing up, and unpacking their delivery from its biodegradable cooler when it arrives via FedEx each month.

Once you have built your custom box, you can easily change what’s in your next delivery, pause, or cancel at any time through your online account.

Each package of meat is labelled with the name of the farm the animal came from, the size of the group it was raised in, the number of square feet of pasture it had access to, the name of the processor, date it was processed, and number of animals in the processing batch.

The money you pay goes directly to cover the expenses of the cooperative and return a small profit to the farmers themselves, enabling them to focus on the craft of farming and make a living by doing it right.

For the farmers of Grass Roots, raising animals responsibly is much more complicated - in fact, it’s their lives’ work. They raise their animals in environments which mimic each species’ natural habitats and allow them to express their instinctive behaviors, so their lives are filled with fresh air, sunlight, grass and water, and space to move and interact.

Small farms and small herds mean that the farmers care for each individual animal daily, ensuring that they are free from disease and stress. They focus on keeping their herds healthy naturally, without the use of maintenance antibiotics, growth hormones, herbicides, or genetically modified organisms in feed or medicines. They use rotational grazing to increase productivity while also sequestering carbon, enriching the soil, increasing water retention, and promoting biodiversity.

Cost and Price Plans

Once you have designed your custom box or selected your handpicked box, your order is saved and repeated each month. Custom boxes are priced depending on the products chosen, for example 100% grass fed ground beef is $8.66 per pound, while a forested pork loin roast is $20 for 2-2.5 pounds.

Other products and cuts include chicken breasts for $14 per 15-18 ounce package, 12 ounces of bacon for $12.06, t-bone pork chops at $9.50 for 12-16 ounces, mesquite lime sausages for $9.13 per pound, ground Italian sausage or Pork Chorizo for $7.97 per pound, 2-3 pounds of beef shanks for $26.50, sliced pork belly for $9.50 per pound, and many other reasonably priced options.

Handpicked boxes contain between 7 - 13 pounds of meat per shipment, depending on the option chosen. The Basics box, which includes 2 packages of chicken tenders, 2 pounds of ground beef, 2 packages of chicken drumsticks, 2 packages of chicken thighs, and 2 packages of bacon, is priced at $112 for roughly 9 pounds of meet total.

The Paleo Box contains flank steaks, oxtail, center cut pork chops, ground beef, and pork shoulder roast, while the Clean Box contains ground turkey, chicken thighs, chicken tenders, chicken breasts, and chicken drumsticks.

The Bulletproof Box gets you beef short ribs, flank steak, ground pork, and ground beef. The Keto box not only includes pork shoulder, beef short ribs, pork belly, and pork chops, but also 5 pounds of pure, minimally finished pork lard. All four diet boxes are priced at $110 each, so you can easily get the right cuts to suit your needs.

In addition, for $69 the Broth Box will enable you to make collagen-rich, nutrient dense Bone Broth with 2-3 pounds of beef bones and 5.5-6 pounds of chicken backs.
