Betsy and Bryan Babcock founded Handsome Brook Farm to produce the highest standards of quality pasture-raised eggs. The company is committed to the ethical and humane treatment of hens, the wellbeing of family farms, and fair trade practices.

Betsy and Bryan started the farm in upstate New York and attempted to raise chickens over 10 years ago. When they opened a farmstay bed and breakfast featuring fresh farm eggs, their guests raved about how delicious the eggs were.

 

The chickens are raised on acres of pasture where they can roam freely and their naturally healthy diet results in brighter orangey-yellow yolks, thicker whites, and a rich taste.

 

While the chickens are outside, they can eat grass, bugs, and other natural elements while interacting with other chickens. Farmers provide them with water and supplemental feed to ensure a balanced nutrition. In many cases, farmers grow their own feed.

 

The chicken feed consists of corn, wheat, oyster shell, trace minerals, and soymeal for protein. All of the organic feed is GMO free. Allergists said that the soy protein in the soymeal is broken down inside the chicken prior to egg laying and is not found in sufficient amounts in eggs to trigger allergic reactions in most people. If you have a medical condition related to soy, it’s important to consult your physician.

 

To date, there have been no complaints about a soy reaction by any customers and many of them who usually have reactions to eggs because of gluten intolerance, find that they can eat Handsome Brook Farm eggs.

 

They owners want to change the way people buy eggs and how chickens are raised. Handsome Brook Farm pasture-raised hens, feed, and eggs are hormone and antibiotic free. The eggs are USDA Certified Organic and American Humane Certified. The American Humane Certified™ program provides third-party, independent verification that certified producers’ care and handling of farm animals meet the science-based animal welfare standards of American Humane Association.

 

The company has grown by creating a group of Amish farmers who are deeply committed to sustainable practices and follow their very strict pasture-raised standards.
